Enrichment Classes

During the beginner writing class, students will review complete sentences, learn and practice editing sentences, learn about the different types of writing (expository, informational, and opinion), and write a paragraph that includes an introduction, three detail sentences, and a conclusion sentence. There is a writing journal that will be included in the class. Pre-Requisite: Students should be able to write a complete sentence and be able to put more than one sentence together when writing. Students should also have some basic knowledge of grammar (capital letter at the beginning of the sentence and understand a punctuation mark needs to be at the end of a sentence). They do not need to be proficient in it, just have a basic understanding. Class Cap: 10 students

During this class, students will be reviewing phonemic awareness skills (breaking words apart into sounds, putting sounds together into words, rhyming, syllables, etc.), practice reading fluency, and practice reading comprehension skills. To engage students in their reading comprehension there will be art activities to go along with the books we read. Pre-Requisite: Students must be a basic reader- they should be able to sound out and read CVC words (consonant, vowel consonant). Class Cap: 10 students

Students will read a grade-level-appropriate book, such as My Side of the Mountain, The Westing Game, or Percy Jackson. Students will participate in small group reading, discussions, and book reenactments. Students will participate in a “book-tasting” where they will have the opportunity to explore each book before deciding as a group what to read. After the book is chosen, students will need to purchase the novel and bring it with them. Prerequisite: Students should be able to read at or near-grade level and cooperate with other students in small groups. Class Cap: 10 students

During this class students will focus on foundational math skills such as, addition/subtraction, telling time, money, counting skills (one-to-one counting, counting by 10’s, 5’s, and 2’s, counting on from any given number, counting backwards etc.). Pre-Requisite: For this class, students should be able to count to 20 independently and identify numbers 1-10. Class Cap: 10 students

During lego club, the students will be using legos to help with their math skills (graphing, adding, subtracting, geometry, spacial awareness, etc.). Each class will focus on one of those math skills and the last half of class students will work together in teams to build different Lego challenges. They will work together to plan out, draw, and create their challenges. This class is for students to build their math skills, learn to cooperate with others and work on their STEM skills. Pre-Requisite: Students should have a basic understanding of addition and subtraction. They also need to be able to work respectfully in groups and cooperate with other students in class. Class Cap: 10 students

Students will practice the foundational math skills that directly connect to Idaho’s State Standards for mathematics. For example, multiplying and dividing multi-digit numbers, adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing fractions and decimals, volume, and coordinate graphing. This class is great for students to get that extra math practice to build a strong foundation for higher-level math. Prerequisite: Students should understand the concept of multiplication and division and be able to perform single-digit operations. Students should also have an understanding of what a fraction and a decimal are. Class Cap: 10 students

Students will practice the foundational math skills that directly connect to Idaho’s State Standards for mathematics. For example, ratios, coordinate graphing, multiplying negative numbers, proportional relationships, exponents, algebra, and the Pythagorean Theorem. This class is great for students to get that extra math practice to build a strong foundation for high school-level math. Prerequisite: Students should understand the concept of multiplication and division and be able to perform multi-digit operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Class Cap: 10 students
